Another rare find brought to you by Retrorumage. It’s a childs size Bauhaus inspired bent ply chair. What makes it different is that it sits on a swivel base. It makes a fantastic stand alone piece of design and would look well in any modern space.

The Nirvana of any design period is to find something that is a one off. Bespoke pieces of furniture usually come with hefty price tags and are owned by the wealthy few. Well Retrorumage is bringing you the opportunity to own a rare one off piece of Irish made mid 20th design.
Above is a lounge chair designed in Dublin in 1960 by a gentleman called Andrew Thomson. Little is known of his work but you can see from this chair that he was highly influenced by Scandinavian and American design of the late 50’s. The chair is a hand finished piece that oozes quality and craftsmanship. It is upholstered in a brown Dripsey tweed and has recently been re-polished.

This Bauhaus style industrial chair has arrived just in time for this Sundays Dublin Flea market. The design is very similar in style to the Mart Stam cantilever chair. The frame is a dark green tubular steel and the seat and back are covered in a vintage distressed tanned leather.

This year as a treat to myself I may purchase my favoutite chair.
Although a pioneer in prefab housing, Norman Cherner is best known for his molded plywood seating line he created for and ultimately sued the manufacturer, Plycraft. After telling Cherner that his design for what is now known as the Cherner® Chair (1958) had been scrapped, Plycraft’s owner continued to produce it, claiming himself as the designer. The Chair’s popularity soared when it appeared in Norman Rockwell’s 1961 painting “The Artist at Work” on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post. While Plycraft agreed to pay Cherner royalties, the line was out of production by the early 1970s. Then Cherner’s sons formed the Cherner Chair Company to revive the designs and produce them as their father originally intended.
